856 Mortality and Morbidity Meetings in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery: Hindsight is 20/20

Abstract Aim Mortality and Morbidity (M&M) meetings form a critical part of clinical governance however they often suffer from hindsight bias lack objectivity. To combat this, Kahoot surveys were disseminated to senior clinicians prior M&M meetings. Each case be discussed is presented as survey item with the radiographic information that was available performing surgeon pre-operatively participants are asked detail their ideal treatment. The aims this study determine if introduction improves objectivity discussions reduces effects bias. Method A 12-item questionnaire relating utility distributed all registrars consultants within our department. Result An 80% response rate obtained (16/20 responses). Prior surveys, 62.6% surgeons felt clouded by benefit hindsight. Comparatively, 68.8% indicated use pre-M&M reduced 56.3% expressed improved 50% quality feedback improved. Conclusions demonstrates withholding outcome until each clinician has given own opinion effect utilise Bolam Test, thereby enabling us correct error classifications greater Furthermore, facilitate higher discussion feedback.
